La Pianura Padana, luogo esistenziale e metafisico, è quella che abbiamo negli occhi da sempre e che non ci è possibile vedere con adeguata consapevolezza.
Il libro raccoglie un dialogo silenzioso fra versi e immagini di pianure solitarie e inabitate, realizzate con inchiostro nero. Scrittura e disegno, influenzandosi reciprocamente, si scambiano evocazioni e memorie.
I disegni di Alessandro Adelio Rossi raccolgono le visioni che si presentano lungo l’autostrada A4, verso est, il mare, “Verso la foce” (citando Gianni Celati, nume tutelare dei due autori “narratori delle pianure”), verso il Polesine e verso sud, guardando dal finestrino destro della macchina, nelle estati dell’infanzia.
Le parole di Chiara Zonato dettano invece un ritmo interiore che sa di terra, umidità, animali, piante e stagioni. Vibrano nel vuoto degli spazi bianchi, di “a capo” densi come mancanze e memorie vivide, osservando “la curvatura del tempo”, “fermo e regolare”. In quella pianura che “costringe alla resa / come poche altre cose: / il buio, la notte, l’amore, la morte”.
Il libro è stampato su carta prodotta utilizzando le alghe in eccesso della Laguna Veneta.

The Po Valley, an existential and metaphysical place, is what we have always had in our eyes and which we cannot see with adequate awareness.
The book collects a silent dialogue between verses and images of solitary and uninhabited plains, created with black ink. Writing and drawing, influencing each other, exchange evocations and memories.
The drawings of Alessandro Adelio Rossi collect the visions that appear along the A4 motorway, towards the east, the sea, "Towards the mouth" (quoting Gianni Celati, tutelary deity of the two authors "narrators of the plains"), towards the Polesine and towards the south, looking out of the right window of the car, in the summers of childhood.
Chiara Zonato's words instead dictate an internal rhythm that she knows of earth, humidity, animals, plants and seasons. They vibrate in the void of white spaces, of "new lines" as dense as lacks and vivid memories, observing "the curvature of time", "still and regular". In that plain that "forces surrender / like few other things: / darkness, night, love, death".
The book is printed on paper produced using excess algae from the Venetian Lagoon.
